Profhilo is one of the most asked-about treatments at Refine Aesthetics. Clients from across Wirral — West Kirby, Hoylake, Heswall, Neston and beyond — come in having heard about it from friends or seen it mentioned online, but with understandable questions: what exactly is it doing, is it actually worth the cost, and is it right for my skin?
This is a straightforward guide to Profhilo — what it is, how it works, what results look like and who it suits. No filler (no pun intended).
Profhilo is a bio-remodelling injectable made from ultra-pure, high-concentration hyaluronic acid. It is not a dermal filler — it does not add volume or change the shape of your face. Instead, it works by releasing HA slowly into the surrounding tissue, deeply hydrating the skin and stimulating four types of collagen and elastin.
The result is skin that looks and feels fundamentally better — more hydrated, firmer, smoother and more luminous. Think of it as the difference between painting a wall and improving the plasterwork underneath.
Profhilo is particularly effective for people in their mid-30s and beyond who notice their skin lacks the density and glow it once had — even with a good skincare routine. It addresses the underlying biology, not just the surface.
Profhilo is injected using a technique called BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) — five specific anatomical points on each side of the face. This placement allows the product to flow through the tissue and distribute evenly, rather than sitting in one spot as a filler would.
The treatment takes under 20 minutes. There are no cannulas, no fanning, no deep tissue manipulation. Most clients notice minimal bruising compared to filler treatments, though some swelling at the injection points for 24–48 hours is normal.
The standard protocol is two sessions, four weeks apart. After that, a single maintenance session every six months is typically sufficient to sustain the results.
Profhilo is also suitable for the neck, décolletage and hands — areas where filler would be inappropriate but where skin quality decline is often noticeable first.
This is the question I get most often. The short answer: they do completely different things and are not in competition. Filler adds structure and volume — it is ideal for the lips, cheeks, jawline and chin. Profhilo improves the quality of the skin itself — hydration, tone, firmness and luminosity.
Many clients at Refine Aesthetics have both. The combination works well: filler restores or defines the architecture of the face, and Profhilo ensures the skin that sits over that structure looks genuinely healthy.
All Profhilo treatments at Refine Aesthetics are administered by Samantha Casey — BSc (Hons) Chemistry, Advanced Aesthetics Practitioner and SPMU Educator. Sam uses genuine Profhilo by IBSA, the original manufacturer, at all times. She does not use substitute or alternative products.
A thorough consultation is included before your first treatment. Sam will assess your skin, discuss your goals honestly and confirm whether Profhilo is the right starting point — or whether another treatment would serve you better first.

Profhilo costs £220 per session at Refine Aesthetics in West Kirby. A course of two sessions four weeks apart is typically recommended, bringing the initial course cost to £440. A maintenance session every six months then keeps results going.
Two sessions four weeks apart is the standard initial protocol. After that, most clients maintain results with a single session every six months. Sam will advise at your follow-up review.
Most clients describe a mild stinging sensation during injection. The five BAP points per side are quick and the full treatment is complete in under 20 minutes. No anaesthetic cream is required, though it can be applied on request.
Results from the initial two-session course typically last around six months. The skin continues to improve for 4–6 weeks after the second session as collagen production builds. Maintenance sessions every six months sustain the results long-term.
